ROB BECKER’S DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN

The longest running solo play in Broadway history, Rob Becker’s Defending the Caveman, starring Chris Sullivan, opens the 2005 season of the Bermuda Festival. The show is a humorous exploration of the differences between men and women and how those differences make them misunderstand each other.
The show has played to sold-out audiences across the USA and Canada . The New York Times calls Caveman “A comic phenomenon.” The Washington Post says Caveman is “Hilarious!”

From his early associations with saxophonist John Coltrane, to the present day, the legendary pianist, McCoy Tyner, has shaped and swayed modern jazz and been the inspiration for a whole generation of contemporary jazz pianists. He has an easily identifiable blues-based piano style, replete with sophisticated chords, fleet, lyrical gestures and an explosively percussive left hand, which first filtered, then transcended, bebop and other conventional styles to become one of the most ubiquitous in improvised music today.
The McCoy Tyner Trio is joined by virtuoso flute player Dave Valentine for both concerts.

MOSCOW CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Under the baton of conductor Constantine Orbelian, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra makes its first appearance in Bermuda , en route for a performance at Carnegie Hall. Founded in 1956 and known in Russia as the Russian State Academic Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra was an inspiration to important composers, such as Shostakovic who declared “This must be the greatest chamber orchestra in the world.” Under Orbelian’s direction, since 1991, the Orchestra has entered a new era of international recognition and acclaim.
Two exciting programmes demonstrate the “subtlety and verve” (Daily Telegraph) and “luminous” sound of this remarkable orchestra.
