Festival Impressions

Festival Impressions is the first exhibition of its kind organized by The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts. Joining together the visual and performing arts, it showcases some of the artistic influence and impact the annual Festival has had in our Bermuda community.

Mounted at the Bermuda Society of Arts in beautiful City Hall, the exhibition features a wide array of material that speaks to the impact the annual Festival has had on Bermudians.

Since its inception in 1976, the Festival has often commissioned an artist to create a work for its publicity material. Posters, brochures and Festival souvenir programmes have borne the artwork giving widespread exposure and publicity not only to the Festival but also the featured artist. Sharon Wilson, Kendra Ezekiel, Kevin Morris and Desmond Fountain are some of the local artists that have been a part of this tradition. Posters and where possible, the original artwork, form part of Festival Impressions.

Each year some of the visiting performers in the Festival conduct workshops where they share their craft with local school children. Sometimes students are also invited to sit in on rehearsals. These outreach programmes have become increasingly popular and videos and photographs of students participating in these are part of the exhibition.  Original works created by local students inspired by previous Festival performers will also be featured, and include compositions as well as drawings.
Festival Impressions will be open late until 7.30pm on Friday February 3rd and 10th and feature local performers (details below). A special talk on orchestra conducting will be given by visiting maestro José Serebrier on February, 17 at 7 pm. Admission to all Festival Impressions events are free but tickets for the talk must be booked in advance through the Festival office at 295-1291.

The Festival Impressions exhibit at the Bermuda Society of Arts runs until February 17. Exhibition hours are 10am – 4pm Monday to Thursday, 10am – 7.30pm Friday and 10am – 2pm on Saturdays. The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts warmly welcomes all to this free exhibition.
